Fanny Churberg: Burn-Beaten Landscape in Uusimaa
I think there was something like a fire; they don’t look like normal trees, they look like they were burnt maybe. Compared to the other trees they don’t have any leaves. They might be also symbolizing the struggles, because rocks are not just little stones, but they are bigger. You need to pass through them to reach to the lake and beautiful view.
The first time I saw this picture it was peaceful landscape because there is a lake and green colors. After that I noticed the red color on the rocks. This looks like a blood. Maybe there happened terrible things. I think this picture shows two kinds of imaginaries, the peaceful, and the terrible and dangerous like a fight between animals.
For me these rocks represent hard work and struggling in life because without this hard work you couldn’t get this field and this beautiful scenery. Also these trees have been burnt; the easiest way is to burn the forest before you make it for a field. It was used in Finland about hundred years ago, this method. Because the trees are growing between the rocks, it doesn’t make sense. They’re not in the field, but these rocks are moved from the field.
